Multifunctional nanomaterials

The group focuses on integrated design of functional materials and devices with emphasis put/laid on nanosize effect to address interesting scientific and engineering problems in the field of hybrid composites including metal – semiconductor – polymer prepared as hierarchically structured systems. They develop new materials with interesting properties that may find applications in plastics, medicine, electronics, catalysis, and other.

The work starts with (i) basic understanding of physical and chemical phenomena with the help of theoretical calculations on molecular level, continues with (ii) material chemical synthesis and modification, followed by (iii) structure, morphology and properties characterization and is accomplished by (iv) preparation of samples of functional materials and/or fabrication of simple devices like LEDs, sensors, catalytic units etc. and (v) their performance characterization.
