Are you wondering why there is a specific tread wear on tyres that are used in hard terrain? This wear is technically known as Cut and Chip or Cut, Chip, Chunk and is characterized by the chipping of large pieces of rubber from the tire tread.
Until now, it could only be characterised by real tyre field tests, and such characterisation required several months of testing. However, now everything is much simpler, as the Centre of polymer systems at Tomas Bata University in Zlín installed a unique instrumented laboratory device, the Instrumented Cut and Chip Analyzer from Coesfeld GmbH (Dortmund, Germany), which can determine the Cut and Chip behavior on a small test wheel in a few minutes.
