The SELGUN Project in the AFO61 Finals: Science as a Story for the Public

23.05.2026

The SELGUN project, focused on the development of an innovative therapy for colorectal cancer that combines targeted delivery of chemotherapy with activation of the immune system using natural β‑glucan nanoparticles, has advanced to the finals of the prestigious science communication platform Spark4Science as part of this year’s Academia Film Olomouc (AFO61) festival.

The project’s author, Associate Professor Jan Vícha, delivered a popular science lecture aimed at a broad audience. Spark4Science is designed for early-career researchers who are able to present their work in a clear and engaging way not only to experts but also to the general public.

The event also included collaboration with young filmmakers, followed by discussions on how scientific topics can be adapted into film. The SELGUN project thus attracted not only the scientific community but also the creative industries, which are seeking new stories inspired by contemporary research. The evening was hosted by renowned science communicator Daniel Stach.
