The Zlín region enters energy research

Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) was admitted as a new member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA).

On 17 April 2020, TBU was admitted as a new member of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) consortium under the Energy Storage joint program based on online voting.

TBU will cooperate on research of advanced energy materials, devices and technologies for electrochemical energy storage. It will also be involved in other related areas such as the socio-economic aspects of energy. Czech participation in EERA programmes will also influence European energy research priorities.

„TBU will thus become a member of a group of excellent research institutions of the EU and further opportunities for participation in international projects of the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs will open up,” explains prof. Petr Sáha, Director of the TBU University Institute. Membership in this alliance aims to strengthen Czech capacities in research of low-carbon and safe energy and to support TBU’s international presence.

The European Energy Research Alliance is a key player in the European Union’s Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-plan) and the transition to clean energy. It represents the largest energy research community in Europe. It is a membership-based association and brings together 250 universities and public research centers in 30 countries. “The European Energy Research Alliance joint research programs cover a whole range of low-carbon technologies as well as system and cross-cutting issues. With this step, the Zlín region joins the strategic direction of energy research, ”says Viera Pechancová, project manager at the University Institute.
