A Centre of Polymer Systems student wins the 2023 Show-Off

17.04.2023

Take Courage and Show Off! For twelve years already, this motto has accompanied what is now a well-established University’s competition. Organised by the Faculty of Humanities’ Centre for Language Education, the event tests the participant’s English and presentation skills.

This year’s finale was held on 22 March in the Faculty’s area designed for formal events. As this year the competition was held in cooperation with secondary schools as previously, the best secondary school students were assigned their own category, separate from that of university students.

For both of the groups, leading university personalities, important partners and TBU students are jury members. The language and visual aspects were rated, in addition to the contents of the presentations which were definitely interesting with topics such as Working in a Diverse Team’, ‘The Challenge of My Life’, ‘Speaking the Same Language: Inter-generational Differences’ or ‘How to Deal with Failure’. Each jury faced a difficult decision-making process as the level of students in both categories was, as always, very high.

The winners from among university students – whether from the country or abroad – received scholarships ranging from two to five thousand Czech korunas. All participants received certificates and valuable prizes such as bomber jackets, sweatshirts and T-shirts from TBU.

In addition, winners in both categories received vouchers for the prestigious P.A.R.K. Cambridge language exam and valuable prizes from ExxonMobil. In addition, goodies from Nestlé, delicious coffee and tea from Oxalis and fragrant surprises from Notino were giveaways for all participating students. The last mentioned company came to offer a work-shadowing opportunity involving one day spent working together with Notino’s senior manager. Eventually, Notino officials chose two female students instead of one as planned; Simona Mojžíšková (Faculty of Humanities, FH) and Eliška Ostroborodová (Faculty of Management and Economics, FME), who were not hiding their great joy and are looking forward to the cooperation combining theory and practical experience more than perfectly.

The most successful students are listed below:

TBU Category:

1. Adam Aberra Challa, CPS

2. Simona Mojžíšková, FH

3. Muhammed Riyas, FME

Secondary Schools Category

1. Lucie Vávrová, František Palacký Gymnasium, Valašské Meziříčí

2. Martin Otrusina, Gymnasium and Language School with Granted Right to Provide State Language Test Certificates, Zlín

3. Denisa Horňáková, Secondary School of Industry and Business Academy, Uherský Brod

CONGRATULATIONS! We look forward to the next year’s competition.
